October 2014 Rally
Dates: October 17-19, 2014
Location: Greenwood, VA
Hosts: Bowers/Jones
Campground:Misty Mountain
Ten Coaches gathered at Misty Mountain Camp ground for the October Rally, October 17th through the 19th. Attending were Baynard and Sherree Barton, Steve and Lynn Bowers, Felicia Jones, Betty Ketron, Karen and Jenelle Lohr, Gene and Judy Matthews, Paul and Carol Melton, and Dave and Evelyn Crabtree. We also had two “coaches” – Rex Monroe and Betty Franklin, and Dave and Judy Mullins - that were unable to camp, come for just the Saturday night dinner. Steve and Lynn Bowers, along with Felicia, were our Hosts and they billed the Rally as one to just come and enjoy the Fall colors and activities of the Shenandoah Valley.
Several coaches arrived on Thursday so they could get a jump on the Winery Tours and not have to deal with the Saturday crowds. (Seems as though some went back on Saturday anyway – so much for avoiding the crowds.) Just to shake things up, there were no formal plans for dinner out Friday night and in the confusion, we were able to work in two separate Happy Hours – or, as Baynard Barton calls them, “periods of conviviality”. Anyway, it works for me.
Saturday morning our Hosts provided a full breakfast before we all hit the road to visit apple orchards, or wineries/craft breweries or the shops in downtown Crozet. Gene and Judy even had a picnic up on the Parkway as they took in the views of the Fall foliage. Goodness, this is a beautiful part of the world.
Saturday evening we all brought a quart of our favorite chili and we poured it into one big pot. That may not sound good, but it really was. Our Hosts provided corn bread and “fixin’s” to doctor up the chili. Later we celebrated birthdays and anniversaries with cake and ice cream – Thanks, Felicia.
Sunday morning we again had a healthy breakfast courtesy of our Hosts and, after devotions, headed out having wound up another great camping season!
