June 2015 Rally

Dates: June 19-21, 2015

Location: Stuarts Draft, VA

Hosts: Gene and Judy Matthews

Campground: Shenandoah Acres

We had our June Rally at Shenandoah Acres in Stuart's Draft, Va. It was hosted by Gene and Judy Mathews, and as usual they did a wonderful job. The attendees were Bob and Nancy Ellet, Rex Monroe and Betty Franklin, Felicia Jones, Paul and Carol Melton with their grandchildren Dawson and Mattie, Dave and Ruby Crouch with their son Mike, Neal Strong and Debbie Robbins, Ralph and Pat Housden, and Kamal and Deni Rojiani. All in all we had 9 coaches and 20 people.

The campground was full of activity with the summer family crowds. On Friday Gene and Neal played golf. I'm not sure how well they shot. But it sure sounded like they had a great time. We all had arrived by 5 pm on Friday. We met at the Mathews coach for Happy Hour, and it was decided to have our Saturday meal on Friday and eat at a restaurant on Saturday because Carol predicted a hurricane on Saturday, which would dampen our festivities to say the least. We had the best hotdogs I have had in a long time with several delicious salads to go with them.

Kamal wants to thank the Mathews for always taking into account his food restrictions. He hopes no one else misses the pork. Debbie and Neal brought a scrumptious German chocolate cake from a local bakery, and we all indulged.

On Saturday, we all found our own fun. There are lots of things to do in this part of Virginia, and the campground had many activities. Felicia stayed at her coach and planned her upcoming trip, Ralph and Ruby went antique shopping, Debbie and Neal found a wonderful little winery with beautiful grounds to have a picnic, Paul took the grandkids to the lake, Rex and Betty had a family reunion to attend, the Elletts and the Housdens relaxed at the campground, the Mathews took one of their cars back to their house, and Kamal and I ate lunch at a local restaurant and did a little shopping.

That evening, we tucked our chairs and tables under the Mathews awning to stay dry and enjoyed drinks and fellowship. We had dinner at a local Italian restaurant called Sanzone's while the rain poured down outside and the wind blew. Felicia brought her Hawaiian pie for our dessert. One thing for sure, we eat well at our rallies.

On Sunday we had a nice breakfast, a business meeting, and thought provoking devotions by Judy. We said our goodbyes and packed up, and headed off until the next rally in Powhatan VA. We hope to see everyone there and those of you who couldn't make it, we missed you and look forward to seeing you in July.
