August 2017 Rally

Dates: August 18-20

Location: Stuarts Draft, VA

Hosts: Gene and Judy Matthews

Campground: Shenandoah Acres Family Campground

The August rally was hosted by Gene and Judy Matthew on August 18-20 at Shenandoah Acres Campground. There were nine club coaches and two visiting campers in attendance. Present were Paul and Carol Melton, Timm and Sharon Seaman, Gene and Judy Matthews, Dennis and Barbara Sarmento, Karen and Jennell Lohr, Feliza Jones, John and Robbie Davis, Gary and Donna Leeth, Rex and Betty Monroe, and Ralph and Pat Housden (who stayed in another campground), and friends of Donna and Gary, the Williams’ and Smiths’.

Several coaches arrived on Thursday in order to extend their “fun time camping”. On Friday morning Carol, Paul, Barbara, Betty, Rex, Judy and Karen decided to go peach picking at Chiles Orchard. Carol and Paul continued on to a local winery. And of course it goes without saying, Timm and Gene went golfing. With more coaches arriving Friday we had our scheduled happy hour with our evening meal provided by Gene and Judy. We dined on Judy’s excellent baked spaghetti and salad, topped off with another one of Feliza’s scrumptious desserts. This time a new recipe – German chocolate upside down cake and a side of cupcakes! I think Feliza’s desserts are my favorite part of camping! Always yummy and she assures us there are no calories! Or did I decide that?? The campground was having “redneck weekend” and Timm and Feliza were dressed in their full redneck regalia.

Saturday morning Gene and Judy provided a delicious breakfast of French toast casserole, bacon, yogurt and fruit which was followed by our business meeting. We then had a free day to do as we pleased. We had three special guest arrive on Saturday; Timm’s grandson, Tyler and Paul’s granddaughters, Lily and Maddie. The campground had a water gun fight from 1-3 pm. Timm and Tyler and the Smiths and the Williams participated in that “battle” event and came out of the games soaked. After happy hour dinner was held at Ming Garden in Waynesboro.

Sunday breakfast pancakes were prepared by Timm; Robbie provided a breakfast casserole and Karen provided fruit. Timm conducted the morning devotional discussing the biblical meaning of rainbows in the Bible thus ending another fun and successful Cardinal Virginians rally!

Happy camping
