May 2018 Rally
Dates: May 9-13, 2018
Location: Outer Banks, NC
Hosts: Bartons and Seamans
Campground: Camp Hateras Campground
The rally started with cold and wind, mid 60's with winds 5 to 15. Co-hosted by the Barton’s and Seaman’s, we had 12 coaches - the Schoepf, Sarmento, Martin, Matthews, Rojiani, Davis, Nichols, Crabtree, Monroe, and Melton. We made new friends of Jake and Vivian Pearce, visiting the area from Chesterfield, Virginia. Bayard stopped them when they arrived thinking they were new members we hadn’t met yet. Wednesday arrivals shared heavy hors d'oeuvres and conviviality to start the weekend. Tim learned of two local restaurants to visit - one had homemade cinnamon buns, the other had apple ugly, an apple fritter large enough for two.
Thursday night everyone went on a 90 minute sunset dolphin cruise aboard the Miss Hatteras. We didn't see any dolphins but everyone had a good time with music, food, drink, and lots of laughter. Betty made sure she knew where the life vests were located.
Friday morning breakfast was delicious and catered to everyone's dietary needs. We had our business meeting immediately following breakfast and after a day of leisure with beautiful weather, we had an early happy hour at the Crabtree's coach. After dinner at Dirty Dick’s in Avon, we came back to the conference center to enjoy dessert and the movie “Nights in Rodanthe”. It only took three men to get the DVD to play properly.
Rex and Betty and Dave and Evelyn left early Saturday morning heading back home for mother's day. The rest of us feasted on pancakes and fruit for breakfast. We actually got to see Tim cooking in the kitchen with his fancy apron. Good pancakes! Another day on your own was finished with a corn hole tournament at David and Joyce's brand new Winnebago Tour, followed by BBQ with all the fixings. Gene would be disappointed if we don’t mention that he and Carol Melton see the tournament winners.
All in all, everyone had a great time.
