May 2021 Rally

Dates: May 20-23, 2021

Location: Galax, VA

Hosts: Bartons and Browns

Campground: Cool Breeze Campground

The CV met in Galax, VA at Cool Breeze Campground from 20-23 May. Co-hosts were Baynard and Sherrie Barton, and Bill and Cheryl Brown. Those attending in addition to our hosts were: Steve and Lynn Bowers, John and Robbie Davis, Feliza Jones, Gene and Judy Matthews, Paul and Carol Melton, John and Patty Nichols, Timm and Sharon Seaman, and Gary and Jane Lambert.

After comparing our trips from home to Cool Breeze, all of us decided, “you can’t get there from here”. Some hair-raising tales! Thankfully, everyone arrived safely.

We had our 5-6 PM conviviality hour each evening before dinner. In fact, we started at 4 PM because we had a lot to catch up on over the past year. So good to be together again. There were some “tasty vittles” on Friday for the potluck dinner. On Saturday morning we had a potluck breakfast with a variety of good eats and Chef Timm provided his wonderful pancakes fresh off the grill. .

Friday was a day of local site-seeing in Mt Airy and Andy Griffith’s Mayberry while others just enjoyed some R and R.

Friday night we had smoked pork and chicken and all the fixings prepared by our hosts, topped off with Feliza’s much-loved dessert. Sarah and Jeremy Bishop (the Barton’s daughter and son-in-law) stayed up all Friday night to smoke the meat for us!

Before dinner, we honored Cheryl Brown for her courage and strength in her fight against ALS. She was showered with small gifts to encourage her and to let her know how much she is loved. After dinner Sarah and Jeremy Bishop and their friend, Brian Dunford, entertained us with some great “pickin and grinnin.” Such great talent and a real treat.

On Saturday morning we had a potluck breakfast. After breakfast, our President, Bill, held a short business meeting. Among other items, he reminded us that FMCA is holding its biennial National Officer elections this year. He asked us to review the various candidates (listed beginning on page 63 of the May issue of the Family RVing magazine) so we can decide at the June Rally which candidates we want our voting representative (Steve or Bill) to vote for at FMCA’s Convention in July.

At mid-morning on Saturday Dave and Evelyn Crabtree surprised us with a visit. They drove up from their new home in North Carolina for the afternoon. It was so good to see them even for a short time.

After a continental breakfast on Sunday and a short devotional by our Chaplain, Bill, we all parted company and headed back home.
